How to Calculate Basket Packing and CBM for Wholesale Orders
Packing and CBM math decides whether a beautiful assortment is still profitable landed.

Read the packing fields first
Wholesale basket pages should show pack quantity and volume reference where available. Pack quantity tells you how many units move per carton. CBM or carton dimensions help estimate container fill and freight cost per unit.
If a style looks cheap per unit but packs poorly, the landed cost can exceed a slightly higher-priced style with denser packing.

A simple CBM workflow for buyers
List each SKU, units needed, units per carton, and CBM per carton. Divide needed units by pack quantity to get carton count, then multiply by CBM. Sum across the order and compare with your target container utilization.
Leave buffer for mixed cartons, protective packaging, and last-minute adds. Perfect math on a spreadsheet rarely survives real loading.
- Units needed ÷ pack qty = cartons.
- Cartons × CBM per carton = volume.
- Volume ÷ container capacity = utilization.
Nesting and assortment tradeoffs
Nested multi-size sets can improve density but complicate quality checks and warehouse receiving. Non-nested packs are easier to count and protect finishes.
Ask suppliers which styles nest well and whether nesting changes lead time or damage risk. Then decide based on your freight versus labor balance.
