From Sample Order to Bulk Order: A Clean Workflow for Basket Buyers
Most assortment mistakes happen between “I like the sample” and “I ordered a container.”
Sample with intent
Do not sample everything. Sample the heroes that can carry a story: one round multi-size family, one oval shelf worker, one gift or lidded candidate, and one laundry or plant utility style if needed.
Write the retail job on the sample request so evaluation criteria are clear.

Score before you fall in love
Use a scorecard for look, construction, packing, price band, and channel fit. Involve merchandising and operations early. A beautiful sample that fails packing math should not become a bulk favorite by accident.
Photograph samples in your store environment before the decision meeting.
Pilot, then scale
Place a pilot quantity for top scorers, measure sell-through and issues, then expand winners. Scaling too early freezes cash in weak SKUs.
Lock packaging and QC standards at pilot stage so bulk does not reopen settled questions.
